Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has welcomed the election of nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki as president of Poland, after the candidate backed by the opposition Law and Justice party narrowly won the election against pro-European Warsaw mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
“What a suspense! Congratulations to President Nawrocki on his fantastic victory in the Polish presidential election“, Orban wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the shared political views between the two leaders. "We look forward to working with you," the Hungarian prime minister added.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó also expressed his support, congratulating Nawrocki in a Facebook post. He described the vote results as "a new victory for European patriots."
Károl Nawrocki won the second round of the presidential election with 50.89% of the vote against 49.11% for Rafal Trzaskowski.
