The UN General Assembly will elect former German Foreign Minister Analene Berbock as its president today, DPA reports, BTA reports.
Berbock is the only candidate for the post, which has mainly representative functions. The mandate of the president of the UN General Assembly lasts one year.
The vote will take place later today during a plenary session with the participation of all 193 UN member states and is expected to be a formality, DPA notes.
Berbock's official inauguration is scheduled for September 9 - immediately before the start of the general debates of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
