The US will no longer provide grants to Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky announced at a briefing.
“We will not accept debts. If some prospects are taken into account, new support packages, then the US can probably set certain conditions. It is clear that this team will not do anything for us for free, that's what they are officially saying“, he said.
Zelensky said earlier that Ukraine would not recognize as debt the military aid from Washington provided since 2022, which the US insists on in the new minerals agreement. The amount quoted in the media exceeds $120 billion.
The new version of the natural resources agreement will put Ukraine in a dependent position, turning it practically into a vassal of the United States, writes the British newspaper The Times.
"Dependence on Washington could deepen, turning Ukraine practically into a vassal state. This is a stunning escalation of the Trump administration's efforts to seize control of Ukraine's natural resources as the price for brokering a ceasefire," the article says.
The Verkhovna Rada said that Ukraine will not be able to withdraw from the resource agreement with the United States or change its terms, since key decisions are made by the American side. The Rada clarified that the draft resource deal submitted to Kiev includes the entire resource base of Ukraine, including private mining enterprises.
