US President's special envoy Stephen Witkoff may travel to Russia again after talks in London this week, which will also include representatives of the Ukrainian government, the Wall Street Journal reported.
According to the newspaper, in addition to Witkoff, the US side is expected to attend the meeting in London with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg. If the positions of Washington, Europe and Kiev align after the consultations, Witkoff may travel to Russia.
The US proposals at the London meeting will be positioned as a "list of potential options" for discussion and feedback. The list, the newspaper notes, includes points for the official recognition of Crimea as Russian by the United States, the tacit recognition of Russian control over what Moscow calls "new regions" and the removal from the agenda of discussions on the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO.
However, the administration of US President Donald Trump is not offering security guarantees to Kiev if it agrees to a peaceful settlement of the conflict, the newspaper emphasizes.
The United States remains committed to a complete and comprehensive ceasefire in Ukraine, the State Department in Washington said on Sunday.
“We remain committed to achieving a complete and comprehensive ceasefire“, a department spokesman said.
According to the State Department, the end of the conflict in Ukraine "is long overdue". "As Secretary Rubio said in a phone call with Lavrov following the encouraging talks in Paris last week, peace is possible if all parties are committed to it," the State Department official said.
Earlier Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on the social media site Truth Social expressing hope that Russia and Ukraine would reach a deal next week.
