Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth sent detailed information about the US strikes in Yemen to a Signal chat that included his wife, brother and his lawyer, the New York Times reported, citing its sources.
According to the publication on March 15, Hegseth posted a schedule of flights of F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets striking Yemeni Houthi positions in a chat with his wife Jennifer, who is not a Pentagon employee, as well as with his brother Phil and his personal lawyer Tim Parlator, who work in the military department.
As the publication points out, unlike from the chat with US administration officials on Signal, which became the subject of a scandal when The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg was added to it, the second chat was created personally by the Pentagon chief and included, in addition to his wife, about 10 more people from Hegsett's inner circle, including two employees who were removed due to data leaks. The chat was called “Defense / Team Meeting”. In addition, the head of the US military department used his personal phone, not his work one, to communicate in the chat.
According to the newspaper, the chat usually discussed information related to organizational and administrative issues.
