The President of the European Council Antonio Costa said today in Belgrade that the European Union remains firmly committed to Serbia's European perspective. He stressed that the country has the potential to become a stable, peaceful and prosperous country, leaving conflicts in the past and heading towards a democratic future within the EU, reports Tanjug, reports Focus.
In a post on the social network X, Costa pointed out that during the meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister Djurdj Makuta and Speaker of the National Assembly Ana Brnabić, he stressed the importance of concrete progress on the path to membership.
„This is an opportune moment for EU enlargement and Serbia has a clear opportunity to take advantage of it. Progress must be achieved through real action and acceleration of key reforms - electoral system, fight against corruption, freedom of the media and synchronization with the common foreign and defense policy of the European Union, Costa emphasized.
