US immigration authorities have arrested a Mexican immigrant who allegedly threatened to shoot US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported, citing the US Department of Homeland Security, BTA reported.
Ramon Morales Reyes, 54, is alleged to have sent a letter to a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer stating that he would "shoot your dear president (in the head)" at one of his rallies, according to the US Department of Homeland Security, which published a photo of the letter.
In the letter, Morales stated that US Immigration and Customs Enforcement had deported members of his family, but without mentioning specific people. "I am tired of this president messing with us Mexicans – we have done more for this country than you white people", the letter states.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump was the target of two assassination attempts, one of which was at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The suspects in both assassination attempts were American citizens.
"All politicians and members of the media should pay attention to these repeated assassination attempts on President Trump and tone down their rhetoric," Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noam said in a statement.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Morales entered the United States illegally at least twice between 1998 and 2005. He was previously arrested for fleeing after a traffic accident and other crimes, the department stressed. He is currently being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Wisconsin and is awaiting deportation to Mexico.
