Turkey reported inflation of 35.41 percent on an annual basis in May, Turkish state television TRT Haber reported, citing data from the National Statistical Institute. This is a slight decrease compared to April, when annual inflation of 37.86 percent was reported, BTA reported.
On a monthly basis, inflation in May was 1.53 percent. Compared to December 2024, the growth in consumer prices was 15.09 percent.
The largest increase on an annual basis was reported in prices in the education sector - 71.67 percent. Housing and household expenses increased by 67.43 percent. Food and non-alcoholic beverages saw an increase of 32.87 percent.
The lowest price increase was in clothing and footwear - 14.12 percent, communications - 19.25 percent and transport - 24.59 percent.
On a monthly basis, food and non-alcoholic beverages fell in price by 0.71 percent in May. Transport costs increased by 2.66 percent, and housing and household expenses by 2.99 percent compared to April.
