Rutte: Russia continues with violence, but NATO stands behind Ukraine - 1

Russia continues with the shelling of innocent people and cities in Ukraine - this is a pure form of self-serving violence. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov at the pact's headquarters in Brussels, BTA reports.

„NATO stands behind Ukraine and continues its support. Let us pray for peace - as soon as possible“, Rutte urged.

For his part, Umerov stressed that Ukraine wants peace and is constantly participating in peace negotiations. „However, we continue to see ultimatums“, he said. The Ukrainian minister expressed hope that today's meeting of the Contact Group for Support to Ukraine, which includes NATO countries and their partners, will send a clear signal of unity.

Earlier today, Rutte announced at a press conference that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will not attend the meeting in person, but the US will be represented.

Tomorrow, a meeting of NATO defense ministers will be held in Brussels, dedicated to preparations for the upcoming summit of the alliance, which will be held later this month in The Hague.
