Tehran criticized today the ban imposed by US President Donald Trump on citizens of 12 countries, including Iran, on entry into the US, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that the ban shows "deep hostility" to Iranians and to Muslims in general.

The ban, which takes effect at noon Eastern time on Monday, applies in addition to Iran to Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

"The decision to ban entry to Iranian citizens - purely and simply because of their religion and nationality - shows not only the deep hostility of the US rulers towards Iranians and Muslims in general, but is also a violation of (...) international law," a senior Iranian Foreign Ministry official wrote on the social platform "Ex", Reuters reports.

The head of the Foreign Ministry in Tehran for Iranian citizens abroad, Alireza Hashemi-Raja, also condemned the "racist mentality", which he said was in the basis of the ban, drew attention to Agence France-Presse. The decision is "a clear sign of the dominant mentality of superiority and racism among American leaders", Hashemi-Raja pointed out in her publication in "Ex".

Trump justified the ban by protecting the country from "foreign terrorists". There was a similar order during his first term as president (2017 - 2021). Then he imposed a ban on entry into American territory for citizens of 7 countries with a predominantly Muslim population.
