The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, said today after a meeting with the foreign ministers of six European countries in Rome that the EU's concerns over Iran go far beyond its nuclear program. They also include Tehran's support for Russia and the detention of EU citizens on Iranian territory, „Reuters“ reported, quoted by BTA.
Earlier today, the foreign ministers of Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Britain and Poland gathered in the Italian capital to discuss the current situation in Ukraine. The meeting was held in the „Weimar Plus“ format and was attended by both NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Kaia Kallas as the EU representative.
Following the talks, the foreign ministers issued a joint declaration stating that Russian assets in their countries would remain frozen until Russia ends the war in Ukraine and compensates for the damage caused.
The topic is expected to be among the leading topics at the upcoming NATO summit, scheduled for June 24-25 in The Hague, Netherlands.
