Germany supports Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear program - 1

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrin expressed unreserved support for the Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear program during a surprise visit to Tel Aviv today, DPA reported, BTA reports.

“Iran has been destabilizing the region for years, even decades, through its support for terrorist groups in the north, south and east of Israel“, he said. This is the first visit by a high-ranking German politician to Israel since the 12-day Israeli-Iranian war.

Dobrindt stressed that Iran's nuclear program poses a "real threat to Israel's right to exist" as well as to stability in Europe.

"We are sending a clear signal to Tehran - Israel, the United States and allies like Germany will not accept the development or creation of nuclear weapons by Iran," the minister said. Iran, for its part, claims that its nuclear program is entirely for civilian purposes, DPA recalls.

Dobrint made the statement during a visit to the site of a deadly Iranian missile strike in the Israeli city of Holon, where he was accompanied by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.

“This attack was a war against the civilian population“, said the German minister, adding that he believed that if Iran had a nuclear bomb, it would use it against Israel.

He assured that Germany would continue to do everything possible to guarantee the security and existence of Israel.

For his part, Minister Saar called for stricter international measures against Tehran's nuclear program. His call came after the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, told the American television station CBS that Iran could likely resume uranium enrichment within a few months.
