US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Kuala Lumpur from July 8-12 to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, the State Department said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
ASEAN was established in 1967 and initially included five countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines. The organization has since expanded to 10 member states, with Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei joining.
In 2015, ASEAN established an Economic Community with the aim of deeper integration of national economies and strengthening the region's global influence.
