Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who also serves as President Vladimir Putin's special representative for the Middle East and Africa, has been dismissed from his post at his own request, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing Russian media.

Bogdanov's resignation, announced in a presidential decree, is happening entirely at his own request and for personal reasons, TASS reported.

Born in 1952, Bogdanov graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1974. He served as Russia's ambassador to Israel from 1997 to 2002. and as ambassador to Egypt between 2005 and 2011. Under Putin, he served as special presidential representative for the Middle East from 2012 and as special representative for Africa from 2014.
