Russian State Corporation "Pozatom" created a new 10th generation gas centrifuge for uranium enrichment with increased productivity, the corporation's fuel division announced. "The fuel division of "Rosatom" produced a pilot batch of gas centrifuges of the tenth generation for the separation of uranium isotopes - GC-10.
Πo technical characteristics, the new development surpasses all centrifuges of previous generations operating at the enterprises of "Rosatom", the statement quoted by Πraym said.
The centrifuges of the new generation will pass through pilot industrial exploitation at one of the enterprises of the separation and sublimation complex of the fuel separation section of "Posatom".
"The tests in the uranium enrichment plant will be the final stage of the development, which precedes the introduction of the GC-10 into serial production", it is noted in press release.
The gas centrifuge method for isotope separation is the most efficient of the existing technologies for enriching uranium with the isotope uranium-235, for the subsequent production of nuclear fuel for power, research and transport nuclear reactors. The difference between the two Russian gas centrifuges is in the design of their efficiency and productivity.
The gas centrifuge works on the principle of a separator, separating the lighter isotopes of uranium-235 from the heavier isotopes of uranium-238, using centrifugal forces. The speed of rotation inside the mechanism is over a thousand revolutions per second.
