“A political and strategic mistake” by the SDSM government was the acceptance of the so-called French proposal, because with it the previous government of North Macedonia endangered the European path and the European future of the country, said the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, from the parliamentary rostrum. At today's parliamentary session for parliamentary questions, Mitko Trajchulevski from SDSM asked Mickoski about the government's unfulfilled promises related to the country's European integration, BTA reported.
In his response, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia returned to the Bled Agreement between Yugoslavia and Bulgaria, signed in 1947. after World War II.
„Representatives from Macedonia also participated in the creation of this treaty. It was that due to the occupation of Macedonia by the Bulgarian fascist forces and after their defeat, they had to pay war reparations of 50 million dollars. This was simplified for them, they did not have to pay and the then Macedonian prime minister agreed to this (...), and in return they even ceded (to Bulgaria) certain territories in the Dimitrovgrad region (from the territory of Serbia), and in return the Bulgarian leadership accepted that the Macedonian population, different from the Bulgarian population in the then Western Bulgaria, in the Pirin Macedonia region, would have the right to self-determination, separation from the then communist state of Bulgaria and accession to the then federation of Yugoslavia”, said Mickoski.
„But then a geostrategic process occurred, in which the leadership of the Soviet Union came into conflict with the then leadership of Yugoslavia and then the leadership of the Soviet Union told the leadership of communist Bulgaria to erase all rights granted to the Macedonian people (...) Why? Because after San Stefano Bulgaria it is clear who is the big boss of this country and what is the goal - assimilation and an attempt for all of us to recognize that idea of one people in two countries (....) I will not take you back to the time of Battenberg, to the time of Exarch Joseph, how they tried to assimilate this part (...) But what they did, and then Todor Zhivkov continued, you accepted. Are you going to tell me now? What Battenberg failed to do, through (Exarch) Joseph, through this assimilation policy of Stalin, through the communist leadership of socialist Bulgaria, through Todor Zhivkov, you accepted (...) And yes, it is difficult, we cannot change it overnight in a year, but we will work to change it. Be patient”, said Mickoski from the parliamentary rostrum.
According to him, during the SDSM government it was “heresy to mention Macedonian identity and language” in the EP reports on the progress of North Macedonia, but his government will correct the mistakes made by the previous government in North Macedonia.
