Russian attacks on Kiev tonight, which killed 15 people and damaged the offices of the EU mission, show that Russia "will stop at nothing" to "terrorize" Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.
"This is the deadliest drone and ballistic missile attack on the (Ukrainian) capital since July," she told reporters. "This is also an attack on our delegation", she added.
Von der Leyen said two missiles struck within 20 seconds of each other, about 50 meters from the EU office. No staff were injured, she added.
"This shows that the Kremlin will stop at nothing to terrorize Ukraine, indiscriminately killing civilians - men, women and children - and even targeting the European Union," the EC president said in a statement.
The EU will soon proceed with its 19th package of sanctions against Russia, Von der Leyen said. European foreign ministers will also discuss new sanctions, in addition to those planned at the Copenhagen meeting on Saturday, she added.
"In parallel, we are also moving forward with work on frozen Russian assets to help defend and rebuild Ukraine," the EC President said.
Following the overnight attacks with 669 drones, ballistic and cruise missiles that damaged EU offices, the Russian ambassador to Brussels was summoned today, wrote the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kalas on the "Ex" social network.
"No diplomatic mission should be targeted," she added. Separately, Von der Leyen announced that she will begin a tour of seven EU countries tomorrow - Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Romania - to discuss the challenges related to the EU's external borders with Russia and Belarus.
