US President Donald Trump promised today to solve the crime problem in Chicago, describing it as "the most dangerous city in the world, by a wide margin", reported Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.
"I will solve the crime problem like I did in Washington," Trump wrote on his social network "Truth Social", hinting at the deployment of federal forces to maintain order in the US capital.
After Los Angeles in June and Washington in mid-July, the Trump administration threatened to send federal police and military personnel, such as members of the National Guard, to other Democratic-controlled cities such as Chicago, New York, Baltimore or Boston, AFP notes.
On Sunday, US Democrats warned of "invasion" of the military in Chicago.
Democratic Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, one of the prominent opponents of the Republican president, accused the billionaire, whom he previously called a "dictator", of trying to influence next year's midterm elections with this deployment of forces.
"Pritzker desperately needs help, he just doesn't know it yet," Trump said today in "Truth Social".
The mayor of Chicago, Democrat Brandon Johnson, in turn issued an executive order that limits the powers of any federal forces to maintain order.
In Washington, where such forces have been deployed since the middle of last month, armed soldiers equipped with armored vehicles patrol the streets and in the subway, especially near national institutions and monuments, AFP notes.
