Romanian PM complains about lack of presidential support - 1

Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolognese complained about the lack of support from President Nikusor Dan due to the government's implementation of unpopular budget saving measures. The Romanian government, led by Prime Minister Ilie Bolognese, took responsibility before parliament on Monday for five budget saving measures. In response, the opposition party “Union for the Unification of Romanians (AUR)“ filed four no-confidence votes against the cabinet, as the approved measures were not coordinated with parliament.

In general, when you do something that doesn't look very good, regardless of the field of activity, few people come and support you. VAT has increased, property tax will increase, people are being laid off, etc. All this is difficult, no matter who holds the position and has to hold it. There is not much support. It often seems that you are alone," Boljan told reporters in response to a request to comment on his relationship with the president.

He made it clear that he does not feel supported by the head of state in the context of the strict measures he has taken for economic reforms.

“When things are going well, there is more support from the people. This is a reality," the prime minister added.
Romanian Prime Minister Bolognese said earlier that the country is facing a difficult economic situation. He explained the crisis by the fact that in recent years Romania has spent much more than it can afford. In 2024, Romania's budget deficit was 9.4% of the country's GDP. The authorities have promised that it will be reduced to 7% by 2025, but have not yet taken any concrete measures to achieve this.
