There can be no mistake in such a large-scale attack on Poland, a Polish official said in response to US President Donald Trump's suggestion that the incursion of Russian drones may have been accidental, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
"I think this is a message that should reach President Trump today. There is no doubt that this was a mistake. This was a deliberate Russian attack," Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk told local television "Polsat News".
Poland shot down drones in its airspace with the support of warplanes from its NATO allies. This is the first known case of a member of the Western military alliance opening fire during Russia's war in Ukraine.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who is visiting Kiev today, also responded to Trump's words. "On the night when 19 Russian drones crossed the border with Poland, 400 (drones) and 40 missiles crossed the border with Ukraine. These were not mistakes," he stressed in a video published on "Ex".
At Poland's request, the UN Security Council will meet in New York today. The meeting will start at 3 p.m. local time, the Polish Foreign Ministry announced.
