There are enough children's beds in the Infectious Disease Hospital, about 1/3 are free, and more than half have the flu, which is common for the season. This was said by Assoc. Prof. Atanas Mangarov, an infectious disease specialist and pediatrician from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Sofia, on the air of “Wake up” on NOVA.

According to him, in most cases sick children are hospitalized unnecessarily because “the parent does not want to deal with the child at home”. He also pointed out that this happens everywhere in the country. He added that this is how clinical pathways are also learned.

Mangrov also said that often, when patients are hospitalized, on the third day they want to go home because they have already understood what they need to do to treat the child.

He said that parents should monitor the child's general condition and whether there is a fever. He also explained that an antibiotic is administered in the case of a bacterial complication, which usually occurs on the 7th-8th day. Before that, the child's condition should be reassessed to assess whether there is a need for such treatment.

Regarding flu medications, he pointed out that they are not a “panacea” and should be administered in the first 24 hours. They also irritate the stomach, which leads to vomiting in the child, and from there – admission to hospital.

A child who has been ill can go to school if he has not had a fever for 2 days, he added.

Regarding online drug scams involving his name, Mangarov said that he does not advertise prostate medications.
