Real-time control is introduced for the prescription and dispensing of medicinal products, medical devices and dietary foods for special medical purposes.
As of June 1, 2025 Real-time control is introduced when prescribing and dispensing medicinal products, medical devices and dietary foods for special medical purposes, paid for by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
The rules are imposed in connection with a change in the Health Act, which stipulates that when creating electronic documents in the National Health Information System, which certify the performance of activities paid for by the NHIF, a preliminary automated check is performed in accordance with the NHIF rules.
The Bulgarian Medical Association, the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Association, Information Service AD and software developers of medical and pharmacy software, within the legal deadline - by the end of the month. May 2025, the process should be completed in all medical and healthcare institutions in the country.
In this way, the rights of health-insured persons will be fully protected and at the same time, control over the spending of public funds will be increased.
Only through timely updating of the pharmacy software will tension and disruption of patients' access to therapy with medicinal products, medical devices and foods for special medical purposes, paid for by the NHIF, be prevented.
