The existing rivers and ravines in Sofia are being built up en masse, and at the same time, no sewage system has been built in the last 15 years. Huge territories are being turned into dams – this is the biggest problem.
This is what the chief architect of Sofia, Bogdana Panayotova, said in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio.
It is right to build facilities in parallel with construction, so that the path of the ravines is controlled and preserved, and not clogged, not stopped, and that there is an opportunity to easily clean it, commented arch. Panayotova for the program "Above All".
This construction was allowed in the years after 2009 – after the entry into force of the General Development Plan, when it became possible to build on meadows, pastures and forests, she explains.
The areas "Triaditsa", "Lozenets", "Vitosha" are the most at risk. The most risky are precisely the places where a huge amount of water accumulates, which, along the normal course of rivers and ravines, descends towards Sofia, notes Bogdana Panayotova.
As a possible measure, she sees stopping the issuance of building permits for such risky territories.
With the existing construction on such a huge scale, the risk is already quite large, emphasizes the chief architect of Sofia. A working group has been convened to consider urgent preventive measures for the capital.
