Anton Stankov: We are losing such authority that it is irreparable

My second thesis is that the opposition has all the powers to initiate a procedure for the election of the Supreme Judicial Council, why doesn't it do so?

The EP discussed the rule of law in Bulgaria.

"We observed a debate on a specific case affecting our judiciary - the arrest of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev. We saw assessments, we saw the humiliation that Bulgaria experienced, yet another. What happened is unpleasant", commented former Justice Minister Anton Stankov on the program "The Day ON AIR".

We ourselves provoked this debate - with our actions in the state and by holding the debate in the EP, the guest emphasized.

"The Bulgarian is used to living in a state. We are losing such authority that it is irreparable. I agree with the thesis that the measure of detention of Mr. Kotsev is excessive. Nothing will change if he is released and the investigation continues", Stankov told Bulgaria ON AIR.

"It was brought to its knees by the legislative branch. Incompetent legislation, it split the judiciary into the opinion of the court and, accordingly, the prosecutor's office. People are suffering. The parents of children who died on the roads complained. The parliament is as discredited in terms of legislative activity as it has ever been before," the former justice minister is categorical.

"Let the people who are factors resign and make it clear that the parliament is not doing its job. My second thesis is that the opposition has all the powers to initiate a procedure for the election of the Supreme Judicial Council, why doesn't it do it? There is a basic principle in legislation, in law - for the case and for the person," Stankov pointed out.

According to him, our state is unpredictable and this is not a good sign towards our foreign partners.

Regarding the beating of the former Deputy City Prosecutor of Sofia Ivo Iliev, the guest emphasized that this is a specific case and case.

"I feel sorry for the colleague. I hope this case will be solved," Stankov added.
