Regional Governor Assen Atanasov, together with representatives of relevant institutions, conducted an on-site inspection in response to a report filed on tel. 112 about the presence of dead albatross birds in the Shabla municipality area. The formed expert commission, which included experts from the Varna Regional Water Resources and Environment Directorate, the Black Sea Region Basin Directorate, the Dobrich Regional Health Inspectorate and the Dobrich Regional Directorate for Food Safety, visited Ezerets beach, bTV reported.

Along the surf on the beach, single bodies of dead birds were found, as well as the bodies of two dolphins. According to an assessment by a specialist from the Regional Water Resources and Environment Directorate, these are marine mammals of the bottlenose dolphin type. Representatives of the BDHR took samples of the sea water, as well as the water of the Shabla Lake. A team of “Green Balkans“ also participated in the inspection, who took samples for examination from the bodies of the two dolphins.

The measures that will be taken to clean the beach were discussed. The Director of the Dobrich RFSD, Dr. Stiliyana Gencheva, informed that the samples that were taken on March 19, 2026 are negative and do not concern Bird Influenza. Actions have been identified to remove them from the beach, with the Mayor of the Municipality, Mariyan Zhechev, assuring that there is readiness and the beach will be cleaned.

The regional governor expressed gratitude to the representatives of all institutions for their timely response, as well as thanked the Director of the RFSD for the work on sampling and engagement with data on the result. Monitoring in the area will continue.
