The Embassy of Ukraine has not confirmed interest in the proposed redundant Mi-24 helicopters. This was said by the retired Minister of Defense Todor Tagarev during the parliamentary control in response to a question from the GERB-SDS deputy Hristo Gadjev. The question was about requested military assistance from Ukraine to provide these combat helicopters.

The resigned minister replied that Bulgaria has five Mi-24 helicopters that are no longer needed. According to him, after receiving a letter on January 4, 2024, contact was established with the Embassy of Ukraine and their experts were informed about the technical condition of these helicopters. With a letter received from the Embassy of Ukraine, no interest in the proposed Mi-24 helicopters has been confirmed, Tagarev pointed out.

Gadjev also asked a question about the requested military assistance from Ukraine to provide air defense systems.

An analysis of the possibility of providing Ukraine with the systems and products requested by them was carried out by the Defense Headquarters, the minister said in resignation and specified that the nomenclature and quantities of defense products that could be provided without led to a loss of defense capabilities and negatively affected the preparation and performance of the tasks of the armed forces, writes BTA.

In his words, the lists of defense products that are to be provided to Ukraine are included as an appendix to two decisions of the Council of Ministers (Council of Ministers) of the Republic of Bulgaria. Number 776 of 02.22.2023 and number 134 of 23.02. 2024, the resigned minister pointed out and added that defense products under RMS 776 have already been provided to Ukraine, and those under RMS 134 have been prepared and will be transported on schedule by the end of April.
