The Director of "Military Intelligence" accused Atanas Atanasov of trying to recruit his employees

The Military Intelligence referred the case to the Prosecutor's Office and the National Security Service, but no pre-trial proceedings were initiated

The Director of Military Intelligence Venelin Venev announced from the parliamentary tribune that there was an attempt to recruit two of his employees, BNT reported.

This happened in 2023 in an establishment next to the Council of Ministers by the then advisor to Prime Minister Denkov - Veselin Markov. And the insistence came from the co-chairman of PP-DB Atanas Atanasov.

"Markov explained that assistance will be required in appointing our people to the SVR, providing advance data on requested topics, as well as sharing certain positions in the form of reference points. The Bulgarian military intelligence will write reference points for Mr. Atanasov," explained Brigadier General Venelin Venev, director of the "Military Intelligence" service.

Military intelligence referred the case to the prosecutor's office and DANS, but no pre-trial proceedings were initiated. Venev read part of the reports given by the officials. They are promised promotions if they release information in advance.

Atanasov saw an active political event to discredit him and read from the tribune a text message, according to which Venev gave instructions to five employees on how to stop the reform in the services.

"The text makes it clear that all this is organized with the aim of stopping the one who wants to reform the services. That's what it's all about - a serious abuse of power, these two, they should have left a long time ago and not occupied these positions," said Atanasov.
