Peevski declared against the new idea of the referendum on the euro

Therefore, business and people will only benefit from our entry into the eurozone

For 16 years, Bulgaria has been pursuing a consistent policy of entering the eurozone and adopting the single European currency, the euro. DPS categorically stands behind this position and I declare that we are against the attempts of the anti-European and pro-Russian parties to play with the subject of “referendum on the euro”.

This is written in an official position by the chairman of the DPS, Delyan Peevski, on the occasion of the request for a referendum on Bulgaria's membership in the Eurozone.

" As an EU member state, we have undertaken to introduce the single European currency with the signing of the EU accession treaty. In this sense, a referendum “for“ or “against“ the euro would mean a referendum “for“ or “against“ our EU membership. DPS will categorically not allow this.

DPS has been at the heart of this policy for all these years and will be until this goal is fulfilled.

We have repeatedly explained the benefits for people and businesses of adopting the euro, as well as the fact that since our country has been in a currency board since 1997, the transition will be smooth and problem-free.

Therefore, business and people will only benefit from the introduction of the single European currency," Peevski concluded.
