The Presidency: The Council of Ministers has not submitted a decision on the appointment of an ambassador to Ukraine

In October 2023, a number of proposals motivated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs were received. Among them is the appointment of another candidate for ambassador to Ukraine, as the head of state respected the motives of the foreign minister

The presidency with a position on the case with the appointment of Nikolay Nenchev as the temporary manager of our embassy in Kyiv.

According to the institution, it is in response to claims that the head of state is the reason why there is no Bulgarian ambassador in Ukraine, due to the president's refusal to appoint Nikolay Nenchev to the post in the summer of 2023.

We remind you that yesterday President Rumen Radev accused the caretaker government of trying to circumvent the Constitution.

"In October 2023, a number of proposals motivated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs were received. Among them is the appointment of another candidate for ambassador to Ukraine, and the head of state respected the motives of the foreign minister. The established practice provides for the adoption of a decision of the Council of Ministers after the completion of the reconciliation procedure. Until today, such for the appointment of an extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Bulgaria to Ukraine, after the conciliation procedure of October 2023, has not been submitted to the presidential institution", the position says.

Therefore, according to the presidency, an answer to the question why the procedure for the appointment of the candidate proposed by the MFA has not been completed should be sought there.

We remind you that our embassy in Kyiv has been without an ambassador since April 2023. Then Kostadin Kojabashev was recalled because of the war and thus did not return to his post.
