"Trend": 55% of Bulgarians do not feel informed about the introduction of the euro

59% of those interviewed approve of President Radev's initiative to hold a referendum on the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria in 2026. 31% do not support such a poll.

Over half of Bulgarians do not feel informed about the introduction of the euro. 59% support Radev's initiative to hold a referendum, but this does not affect his public approval. Without serious dynamics in the assessment of the work of the main institutions. After a slight erosion in support, Ahmed Dogan's party is now the eighth political force.

This is shown by the data from a survey by „Trend“ commissioned by „24 Chasa“, dedicated to attitudes towards the main institutions, parties and current topics. The survey was conducted between May 12 and 18, 2025. through a direct semi-standardized "face-to-face" interview with a tablet among 1001 people aged 18+.


In the last two months, no significant change has been registered in the assessment of the work of the main institutions, despite the dynamics of the events surrounding them.

The assessment of the work of the parliament remains at relatively low levels of 15% positive assessment and 77% negative.

The government has been holding at similar levels for the third month, with the positive assessment being 26% in May and the negative assessment being 57%.

The president's referendum initiative has not affected the assessment of his work, and for another month we do not report any dynamics. 41% assess his work as positive.

No significant changes have been observed in the electoral picture either. GERB retains its first position with 26.2% of voters. PP-DB (13.8%) and Vazrazhdane (13.5%) have extremely close numbers. A slight increase was registered for DPS-New Beginning to 11.6% of voters. BSP-OL maintains its level of 6.8%. Three parties have similar support – ITN with 6%, MECH - 5.9%, and DPS (Dogan) registered an erosion to 5.8% of voters compared to 6.7% in March. Velichie remains close to the edge of the parliamentary barrier with 3.9% support among voters.

With President Radev's initiative to hold a referendum, as well as the approaching date for publishing the convergence report, the topic of the eurozone has become the main one during the month. For this reason, we tested several indicators related to it.

Over half (55%) of Bulgarian citizens do not feel informed regarding the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. 41% feel informed. A lower level of awareness is observed among people over 60 years of age and among ethnic minorities. Among university graduates, over half feel informed.

Among a choice of three statements regarding the adoption of the euro as a currency in Bulgaria, 21% are of the opinion that Bulgaria should introduce the euro on January 1, 2026, 33% believe that the euro should be introduced, but this should happen in the coming years, and 38% are of the opinion that Bulgaria should not introduce the euro. The highest support for the adoption of the euro in 2026 is expressed by the youngest age groups (18-29 and 30-39 years old). The oldest and socially vulnerable groups are the most reserved towards the adoption of the euro. The electorates of GERB and PP-DB are the most strongly supportive of Bulgaria's adoption of the eurozone from January 1, 2026.
