Ivan Vassilev: With this budget, Sofia will have neither new kindergartens, nor new streets, nor boulevards

And this is happening because of the municipal councilors from GERB and "Save Sofia", who proposed an unrealistic and unworkable budget

With this version of the budget, which will be adopted by the Sofia Municipal Council, there will be neither new kindergartens, nor new streets, nor boulevards. And this is happening because of the municipal councilors from GERB and "Save Sofia", who proposed an unrealistic and unworkable budget. He said this in an interview for "Face to Face" on bTV, Sofia Deputy Mayor Ivan Vassilev.

He added that the draft budget, which was adopted yesterday at 6:00 PM by the municipal councilors, is to the detriment of Sofia residents.

With this budget, they are reducing the funds for a new kindergarten in “Ovcha Kupel“ by about 2 million leva; they are also reducing the money for the civic budgets by 3 million leva. This only shows their desire to take revenge on the citizens of Sofia, Vassilev also said.

According to him, it will be very difficult to govern the capital with such a budget, but he assured that this will not break their ambitions to turn Sofia into a better city to live in.

“From GERB and “Save Sofia“ "They are putting a ticking bomb on us that will explode in 2026-27, but we will work to increase the revenue part with state funds and loans in order to develop faster. We have had a plan for about a month and a half, because personally I am tired of living in a conquered country," added the Deputy Mayor for Finance of the Sofia Municipality.

Regarding the increase in the salaries of all workers in the Sofia city transport, Ivan Vassilev explained that this expenditure of 200 million leva, provided for salaries in the transport sector, practically means that no new kindergartens will be built in Sofia, because the funds for them went to increase salaries.

A comprehensive reform of the city transport is needed: merger of companies, audits of all orders, reduction of the administration. Currently, we have a serious shortage of drivers and service technicians. We have been saying for a long time that increasing everyone's salaries equally is not a working measure. Because even with this increase, you will see that there will still be no demand for drivers in public transport, he commented.
