Maya Manolova: Bulgaria is the only country that has not adopted a single measure against speculation

We propose that price ceilings be imposed by the Council of Ministers, a return to prices to a previous period, this is the case in Greece for over-the-counter medicines

There is no country that has entered the eurozone that does not have price increases and that does not have measures to curb them. This is shown by a study that my team and I conducted, said in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio Maya Manolova, former ombudsman and leader of "Izpravise.bg".

In the program "Nedelya 150" she shared that after a conversation with the parliamentary groups, the anti-speculation law will have the green light.

"It imposes measures on the prices of basic food products, essential goods, medicines, fuels and bank fees. We propose that price ceilings be imposed by the Council of Ministers, a return to prices in a previous period, as is the case in Greece for non-prescription medicines. In Croatia, they have a formula for fuels - average exchange price plus a minimum mark-up," explained Manolova.

And she explained that such legislation is temporary in nature, covering the period 6 months before entering the eurozone and another year after. "The authority for this lies with the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Economy, Agriculture, and Health with regard to medicines," said Manolova.

She recommended:

"The government must understand that if it wants a slightly more painless entry into the eurozone, it must adopt such legislation. Incomes are not enough, and the real price increase is not the one reported by the institutions."

Manolova admitted:

"I have hopes that the law will receive a majority in the National Assembly, I sent it to the Council of Ministers, I am hopeful that the Prime Minister has publicly stated that measures from our law will be included in their proposal in the Law on Supplement and Amendment to the Euro. Bulgaria is the only country that has not adopted a single measure. In addition to the EU and Eurozone members, all our neighbors in the Balkans have such legislation."

Maya Manolova is categorical that this law turns out to be more important than the election of an ombudsman, "because this is the life and survival of the people".

"This is for the people, for the voters of the BSP, ITN, PP-DB, GERB and DPS-NN", she said.

Manolova called on Rositsa Kirova to apologize because she behaved indecently and laughed when she listed the civil organizations that nominated Manolova for ombudsman.
