We have fewer violators driving in the emergency lane after the toll booth cameras were connected to the systems of the “Traffic Police“. This is clear from the words of the Minister of the Interior.
“Since last Friday, 345 violators have been caught driving in the emergency lane. This is a decrease of 65%. It is clear that the moment it became clear that there would be fines for driving in the emergency lanes, discipline appeared," Daniel Mitov told bTV.
He explained that for now there will be fines for driving in the emergency lane, and when the changes to the law come into force - there will also be sanctions through the toll system for exceeding the average speed.
„Statistics show that during the increased control, over 270 less serious accidents occurred, 10 fewer victims compared to last year and about 220 fewer injured. These figures cannot reassure us, but they are a trend that I hope will continue in this way. And ultimately, we will invest all resources and efforts to continue to strengthen road control“, added Mitov.
“I have a more radical view, especially towards people who drive with a blood alcohol level of over 1.2 per mille. It is good that fines and penalties have increased, but they must be taken off the road forever, a driver's license is a privilege and it cannot be abused because it leads to injuries and loss of life. Between 80 and 100 people per week have a blood alcohol level of over 1.2 per mille, these are irresponsible people, they overtake incorrectly, recklessly and at some point they will do something unforgivable and endanger someone's life“, added the Minister of the Interior.
