This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov during a meeting of the Mechanism for Coordination of Monitoring and Control in connection with the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Bulgaria. Karadjov pointed out that the software products related to the exchange process are currently being finalized.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the routes of the collection vehicles are being updated, indicating that this logistical activity will require an increase in the number of people. Grozdan Karadjov also announced that, together with representatives of the Bulgarian National Bank, training was conducted for employees of the “Bulgarian Posts“. At a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Interior, all risks that could arise around post offices were discussed, as well as plans for protecting the security of citizens when exchanging money.

Deputy Minister of Interior Filip Popov announced that 31 teams of Economic Police and investigative police officers have been formed to monitor fraud and violations in the exchange of levs into euros. “Over 1,700 meetings have been held with bank and local government employees, as well as numerous information initiatives among the population to prevent financial fraud“, he pointed out. According to him, the Ministry of Interior is actively working against the spread of counterfeit banknotes and internet fraud, with over 600 operations already conducted and 100 pre-trial proceedings initiated. A visible police presence will be provided for the security of transporting cash in the branches of “Bulgarian Post“, and if necessary, security measures will be strengthened in small settlements.

The Executive Director of the National Revenue Agency, Rumen Spetsov, reported that the business is ready for the introduction of the euro in terms of cash registers, electronic systems and systems with fiscal memory. “According to the changes set out in the Euro Introduction Act, the deadline for introducing dual labelling and cash receipts with prices in leva and euro, before sanctions are imposed, is October 8, which gives 100% certainty that all devices will meet the requirements“, assured Spetsov.

During the meeting, the acting chairman of the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology, Paun Ilchev, announced that all submitted applications that meet the requirements of the Euro Introduction Act, for approval of fiscal system devices, will be processed within days.
