Mario Rangelov waived his parliamentary immunity

He was requested several times by the acting prosecutor general

Independent MP Mario Rangelov has decided to waive his immunity on the first day of the new parliamentary season, NOVA has learned. This was announced by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Assoc. Prof. Natalia Kiselova.

We recall that in mid-April, the National Assembly received a request from Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov to grant permission to initiate criminal prosecution against Rangelov in pre-trial proceedings under the inventory of the Commission for Combating Corruption and a prosecutorial file under the inventory of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.

At the beginning of the year, the parliament refused to lift the immunity of Rangelov, who was part of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms“- MRF, later renamed the “Alliance for Rights and Freedoms“.

Sarafov sent a letter to Kiselova regarding the immunities of six MPs, the removal of which was requested in February 2025.

On February 4, repeated motions were submitted to the parliament requests to lift the protection of MPs Jeyhan Ibryamov and Mario Rangelov in two separate investigations.

On April 7, another request was filed to lift Mario Rangelov's immunity. This time, it is due to new pre-trial proceedings related to a crime - "requesting and accepting a gift in order to exert influence in the conduct and awarding of two public procurement contracts in schools in Cherven Bryag and Koynare".
