The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, said that the Islamic Republic does not need nuclear weapons and does not intend to produce them, TASS reported.

"Today we have a high level of uranium enrichment.

Of course, countries that want to create nuclear weapons increase it to 90%. "Since we do not need weapons and have decided to abandon nuclear weapons, we have not increased them so much.

We have increased them to 60%, which is a very high indicator, a very good indicator, necessary for solving some of the tasks facing our country," the ayatollah said during a televised address to the Iranian people.

According to Khamenei, Iran is currently one of 10 countries that have the ability to produce nuclear weapons. Although the other nine countries have nuclear bombs in their arsenals,

"Iran does not have and will not have any", the ayatollah added.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that the country is under a fatwa by Khamenei, according to which the production of nuclear weapons is contrary to Islam.

Iranian politicians cite it as an argument for the exclusively peaceful nature of the national nuclear program.

The draft resolution was introduced after Britain, France and Germany launched a 30-day procedure under the so-called "quick recovery mechanism" on August 28, accusing Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear agreement, which aims to prevent the development of nuclear weapons.

Tehran denies having such intentions.
