Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed Moscow's position on the immediate lifting of the US economic and financial embargo against Cuba during a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez. TASS reported this, citing a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, BTA reports.

The two diplomats held constructive talks on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 80th UN General Assembly. Lavrov stressed the need for Washington to end the trade and financial restrictions imposed against Cuba and remove the country from the list of “state sponsors of terrorism“.

During the meeting, Lavrov and Rodriguez emphasized the key aspects of the strategic partnership between Russia and Cuba. They reaffirmed their mutual commitment to active political dialogue and further development of trade and economic relations.

The ministers also emphasized their close positions on most global and regional issues and expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation within the UN framework, as well as in other international formats, including BRICS.
