Germany has approved arms exports to Israel worth at least 2.46 million euros since it imposed a partial suspension in August, DPA reported, citing the Federal Ministry of Economics, which responded to a parliamentary inquiry by the "Left" party, BTA reported.

According to the ministry, the shipments include "other military materials", not combat weapons.

On August 8, Chancellor Friedrich Merz ordered a temporary suspension of the export of military equipment that could be used in the conflict in Gaza. The measure was in response to Israel's increasingly aggressive military actions and marked a shift in German policy towards the country.

Until then, Berlin had been gradually increasing its criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government but refrained from sanctions.

No export permits were issued in the first five weeks after the suspension. The current permits, which cover the period up to September 22, show that deliveries totaling 2.46 million euros were made between September 13 and 22. By comparison, from January 1 to August 8, 2025, export permits to Israel totaled about 250 million euros.

It is not clear exactly what materials were delivered. The ministry's response listed eight categories, including missiles, torpedoes, warships and naval equipment. But since the exports are not classified as military equipment and judging by the relatively small total value, the shipments likely include secondary products or equipment, DPA notes.

The partial export halt has drawn criticism in Israel, the agency recalls. Netanyahu accused Germany of "rewarding" the Palestinian extremist organization "Hamas" for its terrorist actions and expressed his disappointment directly to Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
