Los Angeles City Hall evacuated after man barricades himself in car

Driver arrested two hours later

Los Angeles City Hall and visitors to a nearby park were evacuated after a man barricaded himself in a car, the New York Times and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass reported.

According to the newspaper, the man was driving a car with a hand-painted sign referring to US President Donald Trump on the sidewalk near Los Angeles City Hall. An object that appeared to be an oxygen cylinder was spotted inside the car.

“I was informed of an incident in front of City Hall, which is currently being evacuated for safety reasons,“ Bass wrote on her social media page.

According to reports, law enforcement officers evacuated visitors from the city park, warning them of a possible bomb threat, and also closed surrounding roads.

No one was injured in the incident. The driver, an elderly man, was arrested two hours later.
