The White House criticized the decision of the Nobel Committee, which today awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to a Venezuelan opposition leader instead of US President Donald Trump, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars and save lives. He has a humanitarian heart and there will never be someone like him who can move mountains with his willpower alone," wrote on the social network "Ex" White House spokesman Stephen Chung. "The Nobel Committee has proven that it puts politics above peace," he added.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded its annual prize to Venezuelan Maria Corina Machado, calling her a "courageous defender of freedom who stood up and resisted" against authoritarian rule.

Trump had been aggressively campaigning for the prize, and earlier this week announced a ceasefire and hostage release agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The Republican president has yet to comment on the Nobel Committee's decision, but this morning he posted three videos on his social media account, Truth Social, in which his supporters celebrated the Gaza agreement.
