The escalation of the conflict between Israel and Palestine to military clashes will continue until an independent Palestinian state is created in accordance with UN resolutions, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, TASS reported, BTA reported.
"The release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners is, of course, a good deed, but this will not solve anything. Until a full-fledged Palestinian state is created in accordance with the well-known UN resolutions, nothing will change. The war will continue. "Everyone understands this," he wrote in English on his page on the social network "Ex".
There is no alternative to the creation of a Palestinian state, the issue can only be resolved on the basis of mutual compromises, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with journalists from Arab countries, TASS reported.
"I do not think that the creation of municipalities or any imaginary state structures [instead of a Palestinian state] will be considered in the Arab world, and by the Palestinians above all, as a satisfactory outcome of this entire almost eighty-year drama," he noted. "Compromises will have to be made here, there is no doubt".
From Israel's point of view, Lavrov noted, the creation of a Palestinian state "would mean encouraging terrorism".
"The biggest risk for the region, for the security of Israel, and also for the security of other countries in the region, is the failure to regulate, the failure to resolve the issue of implementing UN resolutions on the creation of a Palestinian state," the Russian Foreign Minister noted. "It is the failure to regulate the issue of a Palestinian state that is the most significant factor fueling the preservation and strengthening of extremism in the Arab world," the Russian Foreign Minister said.
Lavrov also indicated at his meeting with journalists from Arab countries that Russia is ready to participate in all formats for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, but skepticism regarding the prospects of the summit in Egypt remains.
