The US efforts to mediate for peace in Ukraine have been thwarted by European resistance, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said, MTI reports, quoted by Focus.

Addressing the plenary session of the Standing Conference of the Hungarian Federation (MAERT) in Budapest, Orban said that national policy is a great challenge for any Hungarian government, emphasizing that this is the only area where every word carries the weight of risk.

The Hungarian Prime Minister pointed out that the issue of war and peace in Europe is the most urgent, emphasizing that it is a fundamental issue for the Hungarian community in the Carpathian Basin.

"We are in a strange war. Europe, by its very definition, is at war. European leaders are talking about the war between Russia and Ukraine as our war,” he added.

Orbán said that US efforts to mediate peace in Ukraine were being thwarted by European resistance.

"If European leaders had not done everything possible, the US president's efforts to achieve peace would have failed and an agreement would have been reached between Russia, Ukraine, Europe and the US," the Hungarian prime minister stressed.
