The Acting Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoff, considers the imposition of US sanctions against two Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, to be “very important”, the national news agency ANP reported.
Schoff said this upon his arrival in Brussels, where a summit of EU countries is taking place today. Equally important, according to him, is the nineteenth package of sanctions that was adopted by the union countries.
“We have often called on America to put pressure on Russia. I think it's good that this is happening now," said Schoff.
The Netherlands supports using frozen Russian assets for an interest-free loan of 141 billion euros to Ukraine. Schoff said he understood Belgium's objections, but stressed that Ukraine needs a lot of money in a short time. According to the Dutch prime minister, Ukraine should decide for itself what to use the money for.
“We need to look at the issue carefully, but this is an important source of financing. These are Russian assets, and Russia is the aggressor,“ argued Schoff.
