Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that US President Donald Trump has "guaranteed" that the two countries will reach an agreement on trade issues. He received these guarantees from Trump during their recent meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN forum in Kuala Lumpur, world agencies reported.
Lula said at a briefing on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Malaysia that his talks with Trump went well and that an agreement would be reached “sooner than anyone thinks“.
"I am convinced that within a few days we will find a final solution between the United States and Brazil, so that life can continue to be beautiful and joyful“, said Lula da Silva.
The United States imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian products in response to the condemnation of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who was close to Trump.
Lula said that the latest US decisions against Brazil are “wrong“. However, he said he was ready to discuss any issue with Trump and that he was ready to help the United States on the issue of Venezuela.
“I told him that it was extremely important to take into account Brazil's experience as the largest country in South America, as the most important economic country, which has almost all of South America as neighbors“, said Lula da Silva.
