The newly elected mayor of the American metropolis of New York - Zohran Mamdani, said he would put an end to the "culture of corruption" that billionaires like US President Donald Trump benefit from, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The thirty-four-year-old candidate of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party won the race against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and the representative of Trump's Republican Party - Curtis Sliwa.
"I will put an end to the "culture of corruption" that allowed billionaires like Trump to avoid taxes and use tax breaks relief," Mamdani told his supporters.
"New York, today you voted for a mandate for change, a mandate for a new kind of politics, a mandate we can afford, a mandate to govern, exactly as we want it to be," the new mayor told the crowd.
"You have shown that when politics speaks to you without compromise, we can begin a new era of leadership. We will fight for you, because "we" are you," Mamdani added.
"Thanks to all who sacrifice so much, we breathe the air of a city that is reborn," he concluded.
