US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said that President Donald Trump has "blessed" Congress to pass the long-delayed sanctions bill against Russia. The senator announced this on the social platform X, reports "European Truth", quoted by Focus.

Graham recalled that if passed, the law would allow the president to introduce secondary sanctions and tariffs against countries that continue to buy cheap Russian oil and gas, thereby supporting the Russian military machine.

"I am very glad that, with the blessing of President Trump, Congress will pass a bill on sanctions against Russia, which is supported by the vast majority of representatives of both parties and which will provide President Trump with additional tools to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine," he stressed.

According to Graham, the law is designed to give President Trump more flexibility and power to force Vladimir Putin to sit at the negotiating table, putting pressure on both the Russian president and countries that support him, such as Iran.

"I appreciate "There is strong bipartisan support for this bill in both the House and Senate," he added.

The senator noted that Trump's sanctions on Russian companies “Rosneft“ and “Lukoil“ have had a major impact.

“The Russia sanctions bill will continue the momentum to end this war with honor, justice, and once and for all“, he concluded.

There is strong support among senators for Moscow to face more serious consequences for its war in Ukraine. In September, a group of senators from both parties proposed a new bill that would recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism for the abduction of Ukrainian children during the war.

Western media also reported that US senators have developed new legislation that should significantly expand US sanctions against the “shadow fleet“ from Russian oil tankers.
