Spain to mobilize 615 million euros next month to provide military support to Ukraine

A batch of military equipment worth almost 300 million euros is expected to be delivered in December

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced today that Spain will mobilize 615 million euros next month to provide military support to Ukraine, EFE reported, BTA reported.

Sanchez said that another 202 million euros are earmarked for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

At a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Sanchez confirmed with this package of a total of 817 million euros the “full and firm” support for Ukraine against Russian aggression and ensures that this support will continue until a just and lasting peace is achieved and the country can join the European Union.

Sánchez said that within the 615 million euros that will be mobilized next month for military support for Kiev, a contribution of 100 million euros to NATO's PURL program is included, which will serve to finance the accelerated acquisition of air defense systems from the United States for the Ukrainian armed forces.

The package also includes a budget of 215 million euros from the European Commission's SAFE program for Ukraine, which will allow it to cover the costs of producing anti-drone systems, reconnaissance radars and air surveillance means, many of which are being developed by Spanish companies.

Also planned is the delivery in December of a batch of military equipment worth almost 300 million euros, part of a bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the United States. and Spain.

Along with the military support, Sanchez also highlighted Spain's support for the country's reconstruction - with a new financial instrument worth 200 million euros and nearly 2 million euros for a joint project with the United Nations to restore the central heating system in the town of Samar, supporting more than 28,000 people.
