Trump receives the newly elected communist mayor of New York Zoran Mamdani in the Oval Office VIDEO

It is possible that the conversation will serve to ease relations between the two after the sharp exchange of remarks during the mayoral race

US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet with the newly elected mayor of New York Zoran Mamdani in the Oval Office of the White House tomorrow, the agencies reported, referring to a publication by the American leader on his social network "Truth Social".

"The communist mayor of New York Zoran "Kwame" Mamdani requested a meeting. We have decided that it will take place on Friday, November 21, in the Oval Office of the White House," Trump said, once again repeating his false claim that Mamdani is a "communist" and placing Mamdani Kwame's last name in quotation marks (it comes from the name of the hero of the Ghanaian independence struggle, Kwame Nkrumah).

During the recently concluded election race for the mayoral seat in New York, Trump subjected Mamdani, who ran for the Democratic candidate, to sharp attacks.

The newly elected 34-year-old mayor of New York defines himself as a democratic socialist.

It is possible that the upcoming meeting will serve to ease relations between the two after the sharp exchange of remarks during the mayoral race. Recently, Trump has become more tolerant of one of Mamdani's main campaign messages, that people's lives should become more financially bearable given the rising cost of living, the agencies note.

Trump adopted this softer line on the subject after the heavy electoral defeats of Republicans this month in addition to New York and in the states of Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
