Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has accused Germany and France of opposing the Ukraine peace agreement, DPA reported, BTA reported.

“The impression is that some people in Paris and Berlin have internal problems and want to continue the war, probably in order to sell arms“, the right-wing politician told the “Repubblica“ newspaper today.

Salvini did not elaborate on his accusations, but condemned European efforts to update US President Donald Trump's 28-point peace plan, which was widely viewed by Kiev's allies as too favorable to Russia.

Trump's plan is “remarkable and ambitious, even if some people "They are mocking me," Salvini said. "I hope no one will stand in his way."

Salvini is the leader of the far-right League party, deputy prime minister and transport minister. His right-wing populist party is one of two smaller parties in Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's right-wing coalition. The deputy prime minister, a former interior minister, was popular for his extremely tough stance on refugees in the Mediterranean. Meloni, who leads the Brothers of Italy (BI), has proven to be a reliable supporter of European policy towards Ukraine in the three years since she took office.
