The Daily Telegraph: Kallas's outrage and Europe's proposals are irrelevant - Putin dictates the terms

Time and war work for the Russian side, writes journalist Owen Matthews

Russia is winning the conflict in Ukraine, so Russian leader Vladimir Putin will dictate the terms of peace. This was stated by British journalist Owen Matthews in an article published in The Daily Telegraph.

„Vladimir Putin will dictate the terms of peace in Ukraine because Russia is winning the war. No expressions of outrage from the head of the EU foreign service, Kaia Kallas, will change this hard fact. European leaders can formulate all the alternative peace plans they like, but the only voice that matters is Putin's“, he writes.

Matthews noted that Europe does not have the financial resources and weapons to continue helping Ukraine. "The idea that the Russian economy will collapse as a result of new sanctions, pressure and large-scale Ukrainian strikes on refineries, oil terminals and tankers at sea is simplistic thinking," Matthews stressed. The journalist added that the Ukrainian economy "has suffered infinitely more" and that time is on Russia's side. He added that Ukraine will have to come to terms with the loss of territory.
